How to Visit Positano on a Budget
Positano is one of those places that you see and hear about everywhere right now. When we planned our Italy trip, we knew we wanted to visit Positano because we had heard such raving reviews on YouTube & Instagram. Positano is a town on the Amalfi Coast that’s trending right now for it’s beautiful coastline, picturesque mountain views, & luxurious atmosphere. When we did our research, we noticed that Positano was very expensive but we were determined to make it work because we really wanted to see why everyone loved it so much.
How to get to Positano
As we said in our Sorrento post, the easiest way to get to the Amalfi Coast is from Sorrento. Sorrento has tons of busses and ferries that go to the Amalfi Coast very frequently. We decided we were going to take the Sita Bus because it was cheaper and there was a bus stop right in front of our hotel in Sorrento. However, we had a lot of trouble getting the bus to Positano. It was very difficult to figure out when the bus was going to come and we didn’t know that you needed to buy a ticket beforehand. Basically we missed about 3-4 busses before getting on a super crowded one at around 12 PM.
The ride from Sorrento to Positano was about an hour which wouldn’t have been so bad if we didn’t have to stand the whole time. The roads are very curvy, you’re basically going up and down mountains the entire time. We both definitely felt motion sick after that experience haha! Once we arrived in Positano, the bus let us off at the top of the mountain and we started making our way down to explore.
Where to Stay
If you like to travel on a budget, we wouldn’t recommend staying in Positano unless you stay at a hostel. All the accommodations in Positano were very expensive and totally not in our budget. You can stay in Sorrento for way cheaper and come to Positano as a day trip, which is really all you need to explore the town.

Where to Eat & Drink
Since we did Positano as a day trip, we only had the chance to eat at one place. We were invited by Villa Treville to have some pizza for lunch at their beach club and it was our favorite experience of the day! We got escorted by boat from their main location to the beach club which was a few miles away. When we got there we were greeted by the most welcoming staff. We ordered our pizza and 2 Peroni lemon beers and just relaxed. After the hard morning we had trying to get to Positano, this was just what we needed.
Villa Treville is a little ways away from the main part of Positano, but they do have a boat the takes you from Spiaggia Grande to their beach club which makes it really easy and exciting to get to! We later did some research and found out that Villa Treville used to the be the estate of the famous Italian film & opera director, Franco Zeffirelli. The premises is stunningly beautiful and has such a home-y feel. If you have a chance to visit Villa Treville during your trip to Positano, you won’t be disappointed.
