When we booked our trip to Costa Rica we had a layover in Panama so we decided, why not extend our trip and visit the country? So that’s exactly what we did! We only had a few days here so we only got to explore Panama City but we’re so glad we did! The few days we had here were the perfect amount of time to see almost everything.

Where to Stay

We stayed in the middle of Panama City at the Double Tree, but if we would go back, we would stay in the Casco Viejo area. Casco Viejo is the historic district of Panama City and still has that old-timey feel. We kept going back to this area to hangout so we definitely recommend staying near here if you ever visit Panama City.

Best Things to Do

  • Visit the Panama Canal

  • Walk around Casco Viejo

  • Go hiking in Parque Metropolitano

  • Eat ceviche at Mercado de Mariscos de Panama

Where to Eat & Drink

  • Taqueria Mordida de Burro

  • Tantalo (they also had an amazing rooftop bar!)

  • Beirut

  • Il Gelato (for some good ice cream/sorbet!)

You can definitely see all of Panama City in a few days and we wouldn’t recommend staying longer that that here. If we had more time we would have loved to go to the San Blas Islands or Bocas del Toro but I guess that means we’ll just have to go back ;)

Old City vs. New City

Our final stop on our Central America trip was Panama! We were only there for a few days but we visited so many different areas including Panama City, Casco Viejo, and (of course) the Panama Canal!
