Vegan Guide to Finland

Finland had some the most amazing vegan food we’ve had while traveling! When we were initially researching we didn’t see a ton of options, but I think that’s because plant-based food is so engrained in Finnish culture that almost every place we went to had some sort of vegan option. We also were able to try a lot of traditional Finnish food veganized as well. During our trip we visited Helsinki & Turku so we will list all the amazing vegan options we found in those cities.

Helsinki

Kahvila Rakastan

Round Cafe

Yes Yes Yes

  • Yes Yes Yes - An all vegetarian restaurant in Helsinki. They have high-concept veggie dishes and use almost exclusively seasonal ingredients. The vibes in here are really fun and trendy as well!

  • Kahvila Rakastan - an all vegan and women run cafe in Helsinki. Here we were able to try some traditional Finnish pastries like Karelian pastry here and they even had ones with vegan caviar on top!

  • Cafe Regatta - a cute, seaside cafe in Helsinki. It’s famous for it’s traditional red cottage facade, and they had alternative milk options for coffee/hot chocolate and some vegan snacks as well.

  • Round Cafe - an all vegan donut/bagel shop in Helsinki. The donuts were delicious and they have a few locations around the city.

  • Bun2Bun - the first 100% vegan hamburger chain in Finland!

  • Roots Cafe - Another fully plant-based cafe in Helsinki. They have pastries, salads, and other delicious food as well as cafe drinks!

  • Junk Y Vegan - They serve vegan street food/junk food like appetizers, burgers, fries, etc.

  • Be Mine Healthy Friends - Another cafe that has vegan options! This cafe has a lot of bowls, toasts, and other healthy options.

Turku

Cafe Qwesnel

Kakola Brewing

Kuori

inside of Kuori

  • Ravintola Kuori - some of the best vegan/vegetarian food we have ever had! They only use local & seasonal ingredients so the menu changes depending on what is in season and what they have on hand.

  • Kakola Brewing Company - a really cool brewery near the Turku Castle! They had vegan pizzas and it was such a fun place to hang out.

  • Cafe Qwesnel - a great spot for afternoon tea, and you can even book their vegan afternoon tea option as well!

  • Roots Kitchen - vegetarian lunch & brunch in Turku. Roots Kitchen is located inside the Market Hall.

  • Ravintola E. Ekblom - a very unique dining experience in Turku. They were very accommodating with vegan options as well.

Tampere

Restaurant Näsinneula

  • Olympia Kortteli / Ravintola Muusa - Known for it’s amazing vegan & vegetarian dishes! We ate family style with our group and everything was delicious. Also the cocktails were amazing as well.

  • Tampere Market Hall - Inside the famous Tampere Market Hall, you can find tons of vendors with vegan options! The Market Hall is one of the most popular things to do when visiting Tampere, so we think you definitely should stop in and grab something to experience it.

  • Tallipihan Suklaapuoti - a local chocolate shop with many vegan options! They have vegan chocolate, vegan candy, vegan licorice & more.

  • Sauna Restaurant Kuuma - A sauna restaurant with an epic view of the city! Here they have vegan & non vegan options so it’s a great place to go with friends or family who aren’t plant-based.

  • Restaurant Näsinneula - the highest place you can dine in the Nordic countries! Näsinneula is popular no only for it’s height and rotating floor, but also for it’s history. They have a vegetarian menu and were able to very easily accommodate veganism as well.
