Top 5 Beaches in Curaçao
A lot of you know we go to Curaçao every year! Gabi has a lot family there; her dad was born there, her grandmother lives there, and so do a lot of her extended family! But when we tell people we’re going to Curaçao they usually go “ … huh? Never heard of it.”
So for those of you who don’t know, Curaçao is an island in the Caribbean and part of the ABC islands. Almost everyone we know has heard of Arbua — well Curaçao is very close to it! The ABC islands are part of the Netherlands Antilles, also known as the Dutch Caribbean (because they are owned by the Netherlands, duh lol), but because of their location they are very popular islands to visit for Americans.
Curaçao is famous for its beaches (there are over 20 on the island!) and since we are experts on the island, we decided to make a list of our top 5 favorite beaches on the island. So let’s get to it!
5. Cas Abao
Cas Abao is near the middle of the island which makes it easy to get to no matter where you’re staying! The sand is white, the water is super clear & blue, and you can see tons of fish here! It’s a great beach to go snorkeling or diving but if you’re the kind of person who just likes to relax on the beach, Cas Abao is perfect for that as well!
Entrance fee: $3 per car
Chair fental: $2 per chair
4. Porto Mari
Port Mari is a beach we go to a lot because Gabi’s family loves it! We usually go multiple times during our trips to the island. Port Mari has everything you need for your perfect beach day; an amazing full service restaurant, lots of chairs to get in full ‘chillax’ mode, and tons of fish! This beach is another great one to snorkel or dive at because the water is crystal clear. Port Mari is probably the most popular beach for tourists, but usually when something is popular it’s for a good reason! And if you’re lucky you’ll even spot some of the pigs that roam around the beach!
Entrance fee: $3 per person
Chair rental: $3 per chair
3. Klein Knip
Klein Knip is located almost all the way at the northern tip of the island in Westpunt. It might take a little while to get to (and by while we mean the entire island is only 40 miles long lol) but it is totally worth it. Klein Knip tops our list of the clearest, bluest water of all the beaches in Curaçao! This beach is also smaller and tends to have less people than some of the others. So if you’re looking for a quiet beach day, this may be the beach for you!
Entrance fee: free
Chair rental: Not sure. We believe you have to pay for a chair here but we’re not sure of the price since it’s fairly new!
2. Jeremi
Jeremi is one of the most local beaches you can visit on the island. It’s located pretty far north on the island in Bandabou. It’s not popular with tourists and you will always see locals setting up camp here for the day! Jeremi has pebbles up and down the beach instead of sand which makes it very unique (and fun for pebble hunting!). There used to not be any chairs at this beach, you would have to just bring your towel, but we noticed this past year that they did get some now. Jeremi is Gabi’s favorite beach and has been since she was a kid! It’s a hidden gem and well worth the visit.
Entrance fee: free
Chair rental: No chairs for rent here, make sure you bring your towel!
Tugboat
Tugboat Beach is located in the Caracasbaai area of Curaçao, which means it’s closer to the city/main tourist hub! Tugboat Beach is famous for … you guessed it! A sunken tugboat offshore haha! If you swim out far enough you can see the tugboat yourself and it’s one of the coolest things ever! There are so many fish swimming around it as well. If you’re an animal lover, there are a lot of stray cats & dogs on this beach because the people who work there take such good care of them! They are also planting coral trees to put more coral into the ocean, how awesome is that?! What makes Tugboat rank number one for us though is the atmosphere. Everyone is warm and welcoming and the beach decor is very ecclectic which gives it a cool, retro vibe. We cannot recommend this beach enough! If you’re going to Curaçao at any point you need to come here.
Entrance fee: free
Chair rental: $2
