24 Hours in Omaha, Nebraska
We picked Omaha as one of our stopping points on our road trip because it was the biggest city in the area. We drove 9.5 hours from Wyoming to Nebraska that day and were so glad to be in a city and not see any more corn for a while haha. To be honest, I don’t think we saw the best side of Downtown Omaha. A lot of the restaurants were closed or only serving takeout due to COVID, hardly anyone was walking around outside, and you could see remnants of protests the city has recently had. Omaha really did feel a bit like a ghost town, but we still found some areas with a little bit of life. Read on to see our tips for how to spend a day in Omaha!
How is Omaha Handling COVID-19?
Omaha seemed to be taking COVID-19 pretty seriously. Almost all establishments required that you wear a mask before entering, and it seems like most people abided by that. We hardly passed any people while walking which made us feel safe and most restaurants and stores weren’t too crowded. Overall Omaha seemed like a safe place to be during COVID-19 in our opinion.
Where to Stay in Omaha
We stayed at the Double Tree by Hilton in Downtown Omaha. We only stayed for one night but we thought the hotel was in a great location! We were able to walk to a nearby vegan restaurant for takeout and could have walked to a few other attractions if we had time. Our room was big & clean and we love Hilton’s CleanStay program that they have implemented during COVID! We would definitely recommend staying here when visiting Omaha.
