We visited Mallorca as part of our Virgin Voyages cruise, and we were so excited to go because over the years we had heard such amazing things about the island. Mallorca was a lot bigger than we expected, so in 24 hours you really can’t see much of it. You really need a few days to a week to get a good sense of the island. Since we really only had one full day there, we did as much as we could with our time. Keep on reading to see how we spent our 24 hours in Mallorca.

How to Get Around Mallorca

Since we were coming from the cruise ship port, we either took the local bus, taxi’s, or Ubers to get around Mallorca. Once you are in one of the towns you can walk, but getting from town to town, or to the beach you will need another mode of transportation. If we had more time in Mallorca we would have rented a car because it’s probably the best way to see the island. We love renting our cars on Expedia because it’s always convenient and we never have an issue!

Uber works but can be much more expensive compared to a local taxi. And sometimes you can’t get an Uber everywhere on the island, so we would always recommend having a back up plan! We used both Uber & the local bus, and the local bus was sometimes more reliable. You can look up the time tables for the bus here. And at the bus stops there is more info about the bus system. We paid in cash for the bus. Some of them you might be able to tap your card, but every time we rode we had to pay cash because the tap wasn’t working. Also you should let the bus driver know where you want to get off when you board the bus.

Palma de Mallorca

We want to preface this with we tried to go to a beach, but i think the universe said “this isn’t in the cards for you” lol. Mallorca is known for it’s beautiful beaches and clear water, but we basically had a total travel fail when attempting to go to the beach (we explain the whole thing in our YouTube video below). So any beaches we recommend are ones we wanted to visit, but didn’t get the chance to this time.

  • Explore Palma De Mallorca - Palma is the main city & port area of Mallorca. Since we were here on a cruise stop, Palma was the easiest area to get to. It’s a pretty big city and there is a lot to do and see here! We loved just walking around and exploring all the shops & cute streets.

  • Visit the Cathedral of Mallorca - if you walk all the way to the end of Palma (by the sea) you will find the Cathedral of Mallorca. It’s a beautiful, gothic Cathedral at the edge of the city. We spent some time here because it was so stunning and took some pictures. I believe you can go inside if you want, but we decided not to and just admired it from the outside.

  • Check out the mountain village of Valldemossa - Valldemossa is a historic mountain village on the west side of the island, about 30 minutes away from Palma. It’s famously known as a place where the composer Chopin & George Sand vacationed and lived for a bit. There is even a Chopin Museum in Valldemossa as well which we thought was very interesting and worth checking out. Also when you’re in Valldemossa make sure to check out the Valldemossa viewpoint for epic views of the island.

  • Other towns worth visiting in Mallorca: Deia, Soller

  • Beaches worth checking out in Mallorca: Calo des Moro, Cala Pi, Cala d’Hor, Cala Deia, Cala Llombards, Cala Varques
