How to Visit Arenal Volcano and La Fortuna, Costa Rica
Arenal Volcano is located in the La Fortuna region of Costa Rica. We did this as a day trip from San Jose and it was an amazing and unforgettable experience. Amazing because we saw a volcano up close, unforgettable because our tour bus broke down 2 different times LOL. But at the end of the day everything worked out and we had a great time!
How to get to La Fortuna
As we said above we did a day tour from San Jose, but you could rent a car and do the drive yourself! We’re not really “tour” people but sometimes it is the best way to see certain landmarks. In our case, even though our bus broke down, we were happy we did it the way we did because we learned so much from our tour guide along the way.
Arenal Volcano & Baldi Hot Springs
Our tour took us to see the volcano up close and we got lucky because we got an amazing, clear view! A lot of the time the top of the Arenal Volcano is covered by fog but we got to see it all. Our next stop was the Baldi Hot Springs which are natural hot springs located at the base of the volcano. Our entrance fee was covered by our tour so we’re not sure how much it is but this place was magical. Swimming in the hot springs was one of our favorite experiences of the whole trip. They’ve made the springs a bit too touristy for our taste (almost like a water park with some slides and drinks served at a pool bar) but after our crazy bus fiasco, we were really happy just to get to relax here.
There are tons of day trips you can do from San Jose, but we’re really glad we chose to see the Arenal Volcano. Even though our tour didn’t go as planned, we still had an amazing experience and we wouldn’t do any of it differently.
